Hacking for the Earth (Blog #006)

For Earth Day, nine MIT Energy Club members traveled to Dallas, Texas for EarthXHack, a 24-hour hackathon taking place at the largest environmental forum in the world! We were tasked with coming up with a creative solution to any environmental challenge we face today.
It was a long 24 hours filled with many ups and downs, but in the end we pushed through and both MIT teams made it to the top six teams of 79, letting us into the final round. Both teams got to pitch their ideas to an auditorium full of industry sponsors and other hackers. MIT’s team “SafeLanding” designed a system to locate safe helicopter landing sites around the world during natural disasters and came in 2nd place!
We’d like to thank EarthX and HackDFW for the amazing experience that we look forward to being a part of again in the future.
